'Virgin Media Shorts' holds its breath for competition winner

Derville Quigley's new short film 'Hiccup', produced in association with Sheffield Independent Film, has recently been shortlisted in the 'Virgin Media Shorts' competition.

Amongst other entries, Hiccup will be screened nationwide, enlarged to 35mm size to be seen on tour in over 200 UK cinemas. Following its screening, on September 22nd 2009 the winner of the Virgin Media Shorts competition will be announced and we will see who wins £30,000 to make their next film. Votes will be placed by the audiences and people can also select their favourite short film by going online over the next two weeks.

One woman’s hiccup is another woman’s waters breaking. But which came first? This is no chicken and egg story but a hiccup and sheep tale.

Urban Screens is an exciting new project being piloted in the Broomhall area of Sheffield using high tec screens and content created by local young people to create visual newspapers reflecting the diversity of the area.
Residents of Broomhall will be able to tell their life stories which will then be beamed around the area on the 32ins TVs - which will be placed in secure areas.
