Silent Sheffield at Peace in the Park, this weekend
'Silent Sheffield' will be hosting a film screening area at part of the 'Tea Tent'
Peace in the Park is at the Ponderosa Park which is in Netherthorpe (if you come to the Uni roundabout and take the turning for Walkley..when you see western park on the left, Ponderossa is hidden from view on the left. The event includes the 'Tea Tent' run by 'Help the Aged, which is right at the top of the hill (ie the first bit you come to - or the last if you're coming from the bottom!) http://web.peaceinthepark.org.uk/the-festival/tea/
This year the 'Tea Tent' will be joined by Silent Sheffield who will be running a small cinema showing short films breaking stereotypes about older people. The team running the small cinema is still currently looking for people to submit films so get in touch if you want to get involved. The film tent will be running and screening the films submitted from 12.30 till 7pm
Most of the films are only three minutes long and there's spoken word and jamming to silent movies and all sorts of exciting things. You can sit on the sofa and partake in a beer or two. Or a cream tea. If that doesn't sound like your bag, the festival's worth coming to anyway!
'Silent Sheffield' are creating a short filmmaking competition involving older people in the community. Silent Sheffield will be setting up their tent in the style of an old person's front room, with battered sofas and kitsch stuff, where the films which are entered into the competition will be screened.

Urban Screens is an exciting new project being piloted in the Broomhall area of Sheffield using high tec screens and content created by local young people to create visual newspapers reflecting the diversity of the area.
Residents of Broomhall will be able to tell their life stories which will then be beamed around the area on the 32ins TVs - which will be placed in secure areas.
